Vogue Fashion Fund in 2015 devotes three winners



For the first time in its history in 12 editions, the coveted CFDA / Vogue Fashion Fund decided to reward 2015 not one but three young designers.

The three ex-aequo winners named as the best young American designers of the year are Aurora James, the Brother brand shoes Vellies, specialized designer in women Jonathan Simkhai Rio and Uribe, the Gypsy Sport label, said in a statement the Federation of American designers (CFDA).

Every year, parallel to the competition established by the CFDA for 53 years to designate the best stylist of the year in the United States, is held the Fashion Fund competition launched 12 years ago by the CFDA and Vogue to reward talent emerging with an endowment of 300,000 dollars. All three wins this year so this tidy sum, and also have the opportunity to work with Uniqlo.

Originally from Toronto, Aurora James moved to New York (Brooklyn) after a long experience with various fashion houses before founding in 2013 his brand shoes, Brother Vellies. It draws from its African roots to reinterpret traditional African shoes with craftsmen from all backgrounds.

The New York designer Jonathan Simkhai fell into fashion at 14, working at this age as a buyer for a local shop. He launched his own brand of ready-to-wear in 2010, cleverly mixing in his style masculine strength and feminine sensuality to compose sexy and modern silhouettes. In 2015, he debuted on the New York catwalks.


Born in California, Rio Uribe is passionate about headwear. He has been a consultant for DKNY and Opening Ceremony Japan, and worked in merchandising for Balenciaga between 2006 and 2012. In 2012, he created his own brand inspired by pop culture, Gypsy Sport, the unbridled style.
